Van Zijl Cabernet Sauvignon 2021
Van Zijl Cabernet Sauvignon 2021
Manufacturer: Imbuko
A great partner for summer barbecues as it delivers the fruity and full-bodied expectations of the variety, but thanks to its freshness and light fruit profile, it can be slightly chilled before serving. Dark ruby in colour with violet highlights and good viscosity, this wine presents a wine that impresses with its great performance in its price range. Harmonious, fruity and fresh on the palate, dominated by classic notes of cassis, blackcurrant and blueberry. The wine has good acidity that supports the ripe and fine tannins, creating a great finish that literally invites you to take another sip.

About the winery
Imbuko Winery is located on Uitkyk Farm near the town of Wellington in the heart of the appellation of the same name. Founder and owner Theunis van Zijl has been in the wine industry for 30 years. Imbuko means "admiration for" in the Xhosa language, which is one of the eleven official languages of South Africa and was the native tongue of South Africa's most famous citizen, Nelson Mandela.
The winery has evolved from a small producer of ciders and wines mostly for resale to in-house producers, which now produces world-class wines. The grapes from their vineyards come not only from the farm in Wellington, but also from the Western Cape's most important wine regions: Stellenbosch, Paarl, Worchester and Robertson.
Terroir
Wellington is a major wine region in South Africa's Western Cape, approximately 60 km from Cape Town and 55 km from the Atlantic coast, where the cold Antarctic Benguela Current brings refreshing winds in late summer and helps to moderate high temperatures.
The local mountains are a major influence on the types of wine produced in Wellington. While daytime temperatures can be quite high, cooler air from the mountains drifts into the valley at night, leading to significant temperature differences between day and night. Weathering and erosion of the surrounding mountains have enriched Wellington with a variety of soil types. Vines on the lower terraces thrive in well-drained shale, while higher up on the slopes there is sandstone and decayed granite. These dry, less fertile soils are particularly suited to vine cultivation.
