Nitida Gewurztraminer Tinkery 2023
Nitida Gewurztraminer Tinkery 2023
Manufacturer: Nitida
A unique wine with a great character. Very aromatic, yet very dry and complex. Tinkery Gewürztraminer is the ultimate expression of this aromatic variety. It offers a wide range of aromas, including lychee, rose petals and hints of spice. On the palate, you'll find a rich assemblage of flavours, with lively notes of tropical fruit, honey and a touch of ginger, all balanced by lively acidity and a hint of sweetness. A limited batch that we bought from the winery to bring to us.

About the winery
A tale about a small winery with a few hectares, 50 sheep, two cows and a herding dog. In the heart of the Durbanville Wine Valley is a tiny family-owned wine cellar that combines production, an office, and also a tasting room between the wine barrels. After the Veller family bought the smallest of Durbanville's farms in 1990, Bernhard Veller, a trained engineer, took a two-week vacation in 1992 to plant a few vineyards, planning to produce only a few barrels of wine.
Three years later, he won his first gold medal for Sauvignon Blanc, and that sent him on the wine-making path full force. Their winemaking methods have always been based on minimal intervention in the wine and making the wines showcase the local microclimate. Handcrafting is not only the watchword here but a real approach.
Terroir
Ward Durbanville, located on the northern outskirts of Cape Town, South Africa, is a hilly wine region known for its cool climate. The area ranks as one of the coolest wine growing locations in the country, with the most prominent wine style being the fruity yet herbaceous Sauvignon Blanc. In addition to Sauvignon Blanc, the region also produces Chardonnay, Shiraz, Pinotage and Merlot, which are grown in cool climates.
Durbanville's intense sunshine is tempered by the cool winds from False Bay that sweep through the valley in the afternoon. The higher elevation, wind-exposed vineyards are generally cooler than those in the more sheltered valleys, where mostly blue varieties are grown. The well-drained shale soils, which effectively retain moisture, minimise the need for summer irrigation and many growers choose to skip irrigation altogether. Durbanville is one of the young appellations with great promise for the future.
